Pony Books:
GREY ARROW (LUTTERWORTH 1967) Republished in paperback by Lutterworth EDITIONS PICTURED: 1st edition, paperback SUMMARY: Pony story for older teenagers. Melanie is having trouble with beautiful but unschooled mare Grey Arrow. A local farmer's son helps her with her horse and romance develops. PONYMAD VIEW: Standard fare pony story for older teens which is marred by the truly awful 'hero' whose bullying attitude to the heroine will cause any reader with feminist tendancies (like myself) to jump up and down in rage! Needless to say my copy has been dumped! PONYMAD RATING: HORSE DROPPING BOOBY PRIZE
SHOW JUMPING SUMMER (LUTTERWORTH 1969) Republished in paperback by Lutterworth EDITIONS PICTURED: 1st edition, paperback SUMMARY: Melrose is one of the top junior show jumpers in the country with a string of horses to ride. But far from it being a dream come true, Melrose longs for a normal life away from the stressful world of the show ring. Set at a slightly older readership than the norm. PONYMAD RATING: 3 HORSESHOES
PINK PONY (LUTTERWORTH 1969) Reprinted in hardback by Lutterworth SUMMARY: Pony story about a girl who trains a strawberry roan filly. PONYMAD RATING: 3 HORSESHOES
BECAUSE OF A PONY (LUTTERWORTH 1971) SUMMARY: Two friends have twin ambitions in life: to become good riders and to experience an exciting adventure. They find their efforts at the former hampered by a fuddy-duddy riding instructress. As for adventure, they almost miss it, even when it is right under their noses! PONYMAD RATING: 3 HORSESHOES
THE NAMELESS PONY (LUTTERWORTH 1972) SUMMARY: Pony story set in Northumbria. Non-horsy Shelly is dismayed when she must stay with her horse-mad cousins in their peel tower house in the wilds of Northumbria. Hpowever when she discovers the nameless pony her life begins to change dramatically in a number of ways. PONYMAD RATING: 2-3 HORSESHOES
Collectors Info: The books were all published as part of the Crown Pony Library series by Lutterworth. Grey Arrow and Show Jumping Summer were reprinted as Crown paperbacks and these are the most commonly seen of all the books. The others were not reprinted at all. The hardest two to find are Because of a Pony and The Nameless Pony. The books appear to be findable in Australia, although harder to track down in the USA. There were also German and French editions, although I do not yet know which titles.
